From March 10 to 12, 2012, the international forum of "Marxism and ecological civilization - traditional, modern and constructive postmodern multi-dimensional review" was held in the International Conference Center of Dalian University of technology. The conference was jointly sponsored by the school of Marxism of Dalian University of technology and the US China Post Modern Development Institute. Experts and scholars from Yale University, Queen's University of Canada, Hokkaido University of education in Japan, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Northeast Normal University, more than ten universities in the province, as well as all teachers and some graduate students of the school of Marxism, More than 70 people attended the forum. Professor Ning Guiling, vice president of Dalian University of technology, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Professor Wei Xiaowen, Dean of the school of Marxism, delivered a welcome speech. Professor John Cobb, Dean of the US China Post Modern Development Institute, and Professor Wang Zhihe, executive vice president, sent congratulatory letters and speeches to the forum. Vice President Chen Xiaohui of the school of Marxism presided over the meeting.
The development of modern industrial civilization not only brings great progress to human society, but also exposes its inherent defects. With the increasingly tense relationship between economic development and population, resources and environment, the pressure on the ecological environment is increasing, and the sustainability of social development is becoming increasingly prominent. Therefore, it is the common expectation of the whole world to reflect on the values, system structure, production and life style of modern industrial civilization, and actively explore the way to realize the ecological civilization of harmonious and sustainable development between man and nature, man and society. In 2007, the report of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China took "ecological civilization construction" as one of the important contents of the new requirements to achieve the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, and pointed out the direction for the realization of a resource-saving and environment-friendly socialist harmonious society coordinated by economic development and population, resources and environment.
It is based on the understanding and thinking of the above issues that the theme of this forum is set as "Marxism and ecological civilization - multi-dimensional review of traditional, modern and constructive post-modern". It is hoped that in the context of globalization, by exploring the relationship between ecological civilization and traditional culture, ecological civilization and political civilization, we can find a civilized development path that is in line with China's situation and has Chinese characteristics, including production development, rich life and good ecology. At the same time, it also makes positive efforts to carry out in-depth international dialogue, exchange and cooperation in the study of China's development path, to continuously promote the cognition, reflection and consensus of ecological civilization in traditional, modern, constructive postmodern and other different dimensions, and to finally achieve the common goal of the development of human social sciences.
The international forum consists of the main forum and two sub forums. Professor Mary Evelyn Tucker of Yale University, Professor John gerem, Professor Miao Jianshi of Queen's University of Canada, Professor tanaka of Hokkaido University of education, Professor Chen Zhishang of Peking University, Professor Lu Feng of Tsinghua University, Professor Tian Keqin of Northeast Normal University and Professor Wei Xiaowen of Dalian University of technology delivered keynote speeches respectively. After each speech, there were heated questions and discussions. Especially, many young teachers in our college were able to ask questions and elaborate in a fluent foreign language and actively participate in the discussion, which left a deep impression on the experts and scholars from all over the world and the leaders of brother colleges and universities in the province, and won praise. After the main forum, experts and scholars also participated in two sub forums with the theme of "ecological civilization and traditional culture" and "ecological civilization and political civilization" respectively, and conducted more extensive and in-depth discussions and exchanges. At the closing ceremony on March 12, Professor Dai Yanjun and Professor Xu Chengfang of Dalian University of technology respectively made concluding remarks on the sub forum, and Professor Wei Xiaowen made concluding remarks on the conference, which concluded the international forum successfully. The conference proceedings, which are edited in Chinese, English and Japanese, will be published after further revision and improvement.
This International Forum on "Marxism and ecological civilization - traditional, modern and constructive postmodern multi-dimensional survey" is an important exhibition of the research results of ecological civilization of Marxism college, and also an important measure for Marxism college to implement the school development plan, promote the internationalization process and strengthen the development of Marxist theory discipline.
